 RESTRICT UNWANTED TELEPHONE SOLICITATION

On March 11, 2003, the Do-Not-Call Act was signed into law, which authorizes the federal government to collect fees from telemarketers for the implementation and enforcement of a national "Do-Not-Call" Registry. If your number is listed on the Registry, all commercial telemarketers, except businesses with whom you have an existing relationship or certain non-profit and political and organizations are not allowed to call you.

You may register, at no cost, your residential telephone number on the national Do-Not-Call Registry by telephone or via the Internet. You may also register wireless numbers as well. Call 1-888-382-1222 to register by telephone; for TTY, call 1-866-290-4236. You must call from the telephone number that you wish to register.

To register via the Internet, go to www.donotcall.gov. Your telephone number should be listed on the national Do-Not-Call Registry within three months of your registration. Your number will remain on the Registry for five years, at which time you can re-register your number. You can remove you number from the list anytime.

Wisconsin No Call Registry

Wisconsin's No Call List was effective January 1, 2003 but consumers can sign up anytime. Signing up identifies you as someone who does not wish to receive telemarketing calls. It's free and available for residential telephone customers in Wisconsin. You number will remain on the List for two years. Adding your residential phone number to the List will help reduce (but not eliminate) telemarketing calls to your home.

How does a consumer sign up?

Consumers can sign up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year:

  • By visiting the Wisconsin No Call List website at https://nocall.wisconsin.gov
  • By calling 1-866-9NO-CALL (1-866-966-2255) toll free in Wisconsin

The dates you sign up determine the date when telemarketing calls should decrease:

If you sign up before:               You will be on the List on:

December 1st                              January 1st

March 1st                                      April 1st

June 1st                                         July 1st

September 1st                              October 1st

The updated No Call List is given to registered telemarkerter quarterly. Therefore, it may take 30 to 120 days for your number to get to telemarketers.
